It was back in 1998 that it first went on sale, wearing the M-Class badge, with the GLE name only introduced when the third-generation model was facelifted in 2015. It has now hit the fourth-generation and will be rolling down the production line in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, sporting some even more radical changes.

From the inside, we get 8.0-inch infotainment as standard, more modern features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are optional. But there are some distinguishing factors across various trims that are worth mention.

A 302-hp 3.5-liter V-6 drive the GLE350’s rear or all four wheels ride on a seven-speed automatic. Then there is the GLE550e, which is an all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid, and its 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 and electric motor together make 436 hp.

The list of engine options is also enviably long. But let us look a little more keenly on some tech specs that are rather appetizing.

The driver assistance, for instance, hangs around to ensure maximum safety observation through line assistance and reverse camera as well as parking assistance plus the blind spot. In addition, the ‘Hey Mercedes’ the voice assistance that mimics Siri is on high alert and listening to see where assistance is needed.

The infotainment system has several optional extras and set forth in several ‘packs,’ with Mercedes arguing that they enhance resale value since they give second-hand buyers a little easier time searching for spec they desire.
This car is now available with seven seats for the first time.
