This Is Why Lamborghini Brought Out 50-Year-Old Cars To The Festival

Lamborghini Brings Out Classic Cars For Unique Celebration

Some of the most amazing and inspiring stories in the auto market are derived from the history of these cars. They include the struggles of the manufacturers as they tried to find their footing, the rise and fall of once-revered giants as well as the outrageous ideas advanced by some overly ambitious entrepreneurs.

Here is one of the stories that have shaped the growth of Lamborghini as told by one tabloid. “On 7 May 1967, shortly before the start of the Monte Carlo Formula 1 Grand Prix, His Serene Highness Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, completed the lap of honor on the track in a legendary car: the Lamborghini Marzal, with its glazed gullwing doors offering an almost unimpeded view of the interior and the silver leather upholstery. Princess Grace sat in the passenger seat, next to Prince Rainier. Photos of the couple in the Marzal traveled all around the world, turning this unique car into a legend. Since then, the Marzal’s engines have remained silent, hidden away from curious eyes.”

But Lamborghini could take advantage of this newly found glory to produce the Marzal show model concept into a production model called the Espada. The success that would follow was unanticipated, especially given that it was one of the first series-produced 4-seater GTs.

Then in September 2018, twenty classic Lamborghinis, comprising Espadas and Isleros, gathered in Perugia for a tour organized by Lamborghini Polo Storico in celebration of their 50th anniversary. It was an assembly that rekindled and this seems to have reawakened the interest of the company in these classic cars.

In November 2018, company CEO Stefano Domenicali, said in an interview that Lamborghini is pondering a new 2+2 GT car, probably by 2025. This would see the company add a fourth model to its lineup, with the CEO saying that they are focusing on a high-performance car that can garner additional space.

“We are working hard to combine high performance with interior space and driving comfort in a package that, design-wise, should be striking as well as highly efficient in terms of aerodynamics. Our target is to reach the market between 2025 and 2027, so we are not in a hurry.”

That this would be an extraordinary and exceptional car is not in doubt. In the meantime, we enjoy the epic rides from the Aventador, Huracan, and Urus.
