Hyundai’s Hydrogen-Powered Cars

One thing that automakers have made clear over the last couple of years is that they will do just about anything to give an alternative to vehicles driven by fossil fuels. Luckily, the market is ripe and consumers are moving with receptive mindsets. These seemingly outrageous concepts born out of necessity are helping to drive unprecedented changes in the auto industry.

The Hyundai Nexo is a presentation of an idea that will rigorously disrupt the auto industry. It is not the premiere hydrogen-powered experiment in the auto industry but has boldly made its presence felt.

With three hydrogen tanks affixed across its rear, the Nexo is a presentation of an outgoing nature. You would easily confuse them for diving bags but they are responsible for delivering exceptional driving power for the Nexo.

The Korean manufacturer has been developing fuel cells since 1998 and even delivered a couple of left-hand-drive ix35FVEC. However, it is clear that Hyundai learned lessons from the failures of this earlier version and has now moved to re-engineer the whole concept afresh. To start with the ix35 had two tanks but the Nexo bears three tanks with a total capacity of 157 liters.

This kind of re-engineering is important as the world looks into cleaner and greener energy. The Nexo drives more or less than any other electric car. Notably, out of the exhaust pipe comes out water only.

You will drive the Nexo for up to 666 km before the need to re-energize it. This is not so bad after all.

With an interactive screen that is 12.3 inc, there is no constraint in establishing communication with the machine.
It might feel like the Nexo’s 9.2 secs to 0-62 mph is a lifetime if it is compared with others in its league but it is still good enough.

Perhaps the biggest challenge is that there are very few hydrogen pumps in some key markets such as the UK. If this is sorted, Hyundai will have profoundly made a forward leap in this innovation.
